Brownfields are real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. Cleaning up and reinvesting in these properties takes development pressures off of undeveloped, open land, and both improves and protects the environment.
Mica Village was featured on the Land-of-Sky Brownfields tour route through Asheville's famous River District. Nationally-recognized developers shared their experiences on the importance of brownfields redevelopment, public-private partnerships and the roles of key stakeholders involved in redevelopment. Among the events was a roundtable discussion on new opportunities for brownfileds redevelopment in our region. The tour offered the chance to see how local leaders and cutting-edge developers are making brownfields deals work in our own communities.
